[Santa Fe, New Mexico] (April,1 2013) – In honor of Earth Month, Rock Paper Scissor Salonspa joins Aveda to raise $5 million dollars for clean water.

Rock Paper Scissor Salonspa will participate in the global 24-hour Cut-a-thon on Earth Day, April 22. Salons worldwide – from Tokyo, to Sydney, Moscow, London, New York and Minneapolis – will volunteer their time to offer haircuts to raise money for clean water initiates.

In addition to raising money for clean water, the salons will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most money raised for a charity from haircuts.

Salon professionals in more than 30 countries have collectively raised more than $26 million in support of Earth Month to combat the clean water crisis. Funds raised by Rock Paper Scissor will benefit WildEarth Guardians – a local charity that protects and restores wildlife, wild rivers, and wild places in the American West.

“We believe that good business is responsible business,” says Rock Paper Scissor’s owner, Melodi Wyss. “We are grateful for the support that we receive from our city different each year on Earth Day. We are pleased to announce that Miss New Mexico and Miss Teen New Mexico will be in our salon to support this fundraiser. And we are humbled that our Honorable Mayor David Coss has issued a Proclamation for this day to commemorate our Cut-a-thon for Clean Water Day.”

Call 505-955-8500 or visit www.RockPaperScissorSalonSpa.com or www.aveda.com for more information.

ABOUT Rock Paper Scissor Salonspa
Rock Paper Scissor Salonspa opened their doors in 2001 with one stylist chair in the corner of a small location tucked away on San Francisco Street. This year they will celebrate 12 years of making great hairdressers for Santa Fe. After 7 years of Best of Santa Fe awards by the Santa Fe Reporter’s readers, they are thrilled each time they get to give back to the community.

ABOUT AVEDA
Founded in 1978 in Minneapolis, MN, Aveda creates high performance, botanically-based products for beauty professionals and consumers. The company continues to innovate in botanical technologies, drawing inspiration from the principles of green science with ancient Ayurvedic wisdom to develop performance-driven, plant-based hair, skin, body and make-up products, and a comprehensive menu of ritual-based treatments for head-to-toe beauty.

Throughout the years, Aveda has pioneered new benchmarks of environmental responsibility in beauty, having been the first privately-owned company to sign the Ceres Principles in 1989 (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies) and the first beauty company in the world to manufacture with 100 percent wind power[1]. Aveda was also the first beauty company to receive a Cradle To Cradle charter for its commitment to sustainable products, packaging and production. Since 1999, Aveda’s annual Earth Month campaign, held each April, has raised more than $26 million to support environmental projects around the world.

More than half of the fastest growing and best-run salons in the U.S. are Aveda distributors[2]. Aveda products are available in Aveda Experience Centers and more than 7,000 professional hair salons and spas in more than 30 countries and at www.aveda.com.
